How do I keep informed about the competition?

Sign up to the newsletter, or enter the competition. You will be informed via email - or keep an eye on www.bassdrop.co.nz - theres a specific forum for Rumble in the Jungle, as well as the Rumble in the Jungle Facebook page.

Who do I contact for more info?

Contact Andrew Thompson at info@rumblejungle.co.nz please.

How do I enter?

To enter Rumble in the Jungle you need to submit info about yourself and submit a mix.

You can enter Rumble in the Jungle one of three ways.

1) Post in your entry form and post your mix in.
2) Enter online and post your mix in.
3) Enter online and upload your mix.

Where do I find entry forms?

Samuraistore in Wellington has them, or ask your local promoter. Fu & Zen or the Mash Up Mafia in Auckland / Wise in Chch / Bath St or SBK in Dunedin

How long should my mix be?

Please make it 20-40 mins long.

How and Where do I post my mix?

Burn your mix as either an MP3 or as CD Audio onto a CD. Package it up and post it along to:

‘RUMBLE IN THE JUNGLE’
PO BOX 27500
WELLINGTON 06141

Remember it needs to arrive to me by 5pm on Monday the 31st of July - this means it will have to be sent at least the 29th to be sure of its arrival on time.

How can I upload the mix online?

Head along to http://uploads.rumblejungle.co.nz and make sure you put your dj alias and the location of the regional in the file name.

What format should the mp3 be?

If you are sending the mp3 online or on a CD, please make sure its at least 128 kbs quality. Ogg Vorbis is an acceptable compression also. Any CDs that have AIFF or WAV files will be ignored.

I got through to the regional/final last year, do I have to send a mix still?

Yes, it would be unfair to always take people that have entered successfully previously.

Can I deliver the CD to you in person?

No. I will not accept personal entries this year unless is it sent online.

Who are the Judges?

Judges are still being decided. Check the facebook page for updates.

When are the events?

Please head to the '2010 Comp' page to see when the events for 2010 are.

How are the Mix CDs selected down to the 10 entrants at each regional?

A group of DJs are given the mixes that are anonymous. They then rate them on the best to worst and the top 10 from each region get selected.
Judging for the CD mixes is based on a very simple sliding scale.

You start with 80 points.
The judges notices a mistake (poor beat matching, key clashes, wrong loops) or something generally wrong with the mix (poor flow, poor tune selection, its house music) and they will take a point off.
If the judge notices something special (original mix, awesome beatmatching, generally what makes good dnb mixes good) then they add points on.

When will I know if I made it into the regional?

About a week after the entries close, so approx the 7th of August.

What equipment are we using to mix on?

There will be 2x Technics 1200s (at least mk2s), 2x Pioneer CDJ1000s, feeding into a 4 channel mixer. Each regional will more than likely have a different mixer.
You will be informed of what the mixer is well before the event. You also have the opportunity to use Serato Scratch Live should you own it. You will need to inform me of that.

You are recommended to bring your own headshells/carts along, but there will be some provided.

Will there be an MC / Can I have an MC?

The only MC around will be the host MC, introducing you and making sure people don't get bored inbetween sets. You are not allowed to have an MC over your set.

How does the competition on the night run?

There are three rounds. The first round is 12 minutes long. You are judged on your mix, and then the top 4 DJs from that lot will be selected. The top 4 then enter the 2nd round, where they have 20 minutes to mix. The top 2 are then selected from that round, and those 2 enter the final round where they play 30 mins each, however its broken up into 15mins back to back.

If I get top two in the regional, do I have to pay my own way to the final?

Travel will be paid for. Accomodation is also available should you not wish to find your own.
